My Group Project- A great learning experience!

For the final assignment of this summer intensive, we were devided into group of four people. Each group was supposed to give a presentation for about 30 minutes. We had the freedom to choose the topics for our presentation.
I had, in my goup, Lisa, Andrea and Bomi. Working with them was an enriching experience. There was a lot of exchange of ideas and information which we used in our group project. Our background, culture is also apparent in our individual work/page. We chose a specific theme to work on. India, Spain, Korea and Hawaii were the four different regions we devided our group project into (showing our own roots). It was an interesting process as we were not only learning the use of technology (linking various pages to our page, easy links between our individual pages, taking information from websites and using them in our own page/project, copying 'source' from other sites etc.), but as we were working together, we were also knowing more about each others culture, which was really enriching.
I am happy to work with such talented people-future arts teachers! I truly hope to have more such interactions that will bring us together, on a deeper level to serve the community in our own creative ways.

Stealing Streaming Audio!

It's overwhelming to know what all we can create with the use of technology. My summer class at NYU is all about the use of technological advancements in performing arts education. I learnt ways to record the streaming audio from internet and I am really excited about it. I dont know if it's called steeling music though!
By using 'Audacity' I recorded some music from my favorite site - www.sawf.org. Earlier I used to wonder how I can collect all these rare audio clips and save them on my computer. Today I did the first round of it and the recording came out really nice!

Technology does help!

In a country like India with one billion of population, why is that there are only a few artists who keep performing in India and around the world? This question leads to a few more questions – What are the reasons behind the success of these artists? Aren’t there more artists of same calibre? If there are, why are they not equally famous? What are the issues that an artist needs to work on alongside his/her art in order to be commercially successful?

In this new era where communication has become easier and faster, there are still many artists who are unaware of technological advancements and still continuing to rely on the slow pace forms of communcation. Unfortunately majority of artists in India still do not use internet to expand their network and become a part of a larger musician community nationally and internationally. There is a need to educate artists about how they can use the technology in the field of performing arts and I am trying to think of ways I can use this technology and help educate the younger generation of musicians in India so that we can carry forward our rich cultural heritage.

Let's join the bandwagon

I am sure there are many people who are already writing on and about Indian classical music. Mine is yet another effort to join the gang and stay connected with like minded people around the world! I am sure it's going to be a terrific experience with the use of fast, advanced and truly amazing tech resources!

I should be honest- although I knew about "blogging" since long time but never thought of starting or having one. I am starting it as an assignment that was given to us in a class called "Tech resources in performing arts education". So I am guessing I will be talking more of the tech stuff than music in my initial posts and I hope I will make sense too!!!). :)
